Pies made with beef
Beef is a classic choice for pie fillings - and for good reason. It's hearty, full of flavour and becomes beautifully tender when cooked slowly, making it ideal for cooking in a pie. Whether you're using beef mince or beef chunks, it pairs perfectly with a variety of ingredients like onions, mushrooms, root vegetables and savoury gravies.
Pies made with fish
Fish pies are a light alternative to a meat-based pie, but just as satisfying. The delicate flavour of fish pairs beautifully with a creamy sauce. Topped with buttery mashed potato or crispy pastry, a fish pie is a great way to not only enjoy the fruits of the sea, but to serve up a delicious meal too!
Pies made with lamb
Lamb makes a rich and flavourful filling for pies. It pairs well with ingredients like rosemary, mint, root vegetables and even a hint of spice (try the Moroccan lamb pie below - you won't be sorry). Lamb pies are also a fantastic way to use up leftovers from a roast. Just chop the meat, add any leftover vegetables and moisten with a little leftover gravy so you don't waste a thing!
Pies with chicken
Chicken is a wonderfully versatile filling for pies – mild in flavour, easy to cook, and loved by both kids and adults. It works well with creamy sauces, herbs like thyme or tarragon, and vegetables such as leeks, peas, or mushrooms. Whether you use leftover roast chicken or cook up a quick batch of thighs or breast, chicken pies are perfect for using up what you have on hand and turning it into a delicious, fuss-free dinner.
Pies that are not quite a pie
Not quite a pie, but delicious nonetheless, and worthy of being included in this dinner pie recipe collection.
